Saint Carlo Acutis: Your Questions Answered

Saint Carlo Acutis is often called the Church's first millennial saint. He was an ordinary teenager who loved computers and football, and who loved Jesus in the Eucharist even more. Here are clear answers to the questions people ask most about him.

Where and when was Carlo Acutis born?

Carlo was born on 3 May 1991 in London, to Italian parents, Andrea Acutis and Antonia Salzano. The family moved back to Milan when he was a few months old, and that is where he grew up.

What was he like?

By every account Carlo was a cheerful, ordinary boy. He loved football, video games and his dogs, and he taught himself computer programming. He also went to Mass every day, prayed the Rosary and went often to Confession. He made his First Holy Communion at the age of seven, and he called the Eucharist his “highway to heaven”.

What did he do online?

Carlo used his computer skills for his faith. He built a website cataloguing Eucharistic miracles from around the world, which later became an exhibition that has travelled to many countries. He was also known for his kindness to classmates and to people who were poor or on the margins.

How and when did he die?

In October 2006, at the age of fifteen, Carlo was diagnosed with acute leukaemia. He died a few days later, on 12 October 2006, in Monza near Milan. He is said to have offered his suffering for the Pope and for the Church.

Where is he buried?

Carlo asked to be buried in Assisi, a town he loved. His tomb there has become a place of pilgrimage for young people and families from all over the world.

When was he beatified and canonised?

Carlo was beatified in Assisi on 10 October 2020, and canonised on 7 September 2025, when he was declared a saint of the Catholic Church. He is the first millennial to be canonised.
